Undergraduate Research Symposium Information Sessions

Friday, February 10 – 12:00-1:00pm, Mary Gates Hall 171

We will discuss topics such as the Symposium Day schedule, the difference between poster and oral presentation sessions, connect you with additional resources to assist you through your application and presentation preparation process, and answer any questions you might have. In addition, we highly encourage you to also attend an abstract-writing workshop prior to completing your application.

Abstract Writing Workshops are tailored to students who are applying to the Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, but are open to everyone.

The abstract writing workshop includes information on what exactly is an abstract, how to write one, and what information to include. If you already have a draft, you may also bring this to the session for feedback.

Undergraduate Research General Information Session

Friday, February 17 – 11:00am-12:00pm, Mary Gates Hall 171

URP Information Sessions address how the Undergraduate Research Program can help the student pursue her/his research interests.

Primarily for undergraduates who have yet to begin research, the sessions provide research resources, information on funding, and suggestions for approaching faculty. Additionally, the sessions are highly student-driven, with an emphasis on student questions and concerns. Students interested in attending the UW, including community college transfer students, are welcome to the sessions.

On Wednesday, Nov 16th the Libraries is hosting a day-long event for GIS Day in the Research Commons.

Conference: Reputation & Integrity in an Information Age

On September 15-16 the University of Washington’s Center for Leadership and Social Responsibility will host a conference entitled “Reputation & Integrity in an Information Age” in Bellevue.  This conference will explore the issues faced by business regarding reputation and integrity as they relate to reporting, transparency, and the messages used to engage and leverage stakeholders at all levels.

Conference: Ethical Considerations in Research Collaborations

The UW is host to a conference on the ethical conduct of research conducted in collaboration with industry, and in international, multi-cultural and interdisciplinary settings. Graduate students may apply for full scholarships to cover the cost of registration and may also submit abstracts that will be included in conference proceedings.

With internationally recognized presenters, the conference will provide graduate students with a strong foundation for building their research careers. The conference is in Meany Hall on the UW campus on September 22 and 23, 2011.

Reminder:  The University of Washington Information School 2011 Capstone Event is tonight, Thursday 6/2 @ 6:00pm at UW Tower.

Capstone projects from the UW Information School are concrete examples of how we design and build effective solutions to the information problems people and organizations face every day.

The Information School Capstone Event showcases projects from the University of Washington Information School’s Bachelor of Science in InformaticsMaster of Science in Information Management (MSIM), and Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) programs.  The evening begins promptly at 6:00 pm with “Information Overload,” a lively round-robin of project introductions.  Following is an evening of poster presentations, networking and hors d’oeuvres.  Guests are invited to see how iSchool students have been using information as a tool for transformation in their academic, professional and personal lives. Capstone project collaborators include organizations from the public, private and non-profit sectors.
